Heralded by the motoring press as the best all around Mustang ever produced, the 2001 Mustang Bullitt GT was produced in three colors:  Dark Highland Green (to commemorate the color of the 1968 Fastback that was the car star of the Steve McQueen movie of the same name), Black and Blue.  A total of 5600 of these cars (with holographic build numbers posted in the left shock tower) were produced through August of 2001.  The Bullitt carried a $3,600 premium over the top of the line Mustang GT, but enthusiast buyers and greedy dealers were settling at selling prices that exceeded the list price by as much as $3,000.

Although Ford vowed never to manufacture another Bullitt, the 2008.5 model will be rolling off the assembly lines late in 2007 or early in 2008.  I speculate that early editions of this new Bullitt will fetch prices over $35,000, perhaps nudging to $40K with dealer "market adjustments."  The new Bullitt is visually more akin to the original 1968 Mustang Fastback that McQueen drove through the Streets of San Francisco and into cinematic history, and also has more power that the 2001 version (315 vs. 265 HP), but is also much heavier and larger.

I suspect that may 2001 Bullitt owners and those that were unable to buy a new Bullitt will be anxious to get in on the new model, which will likely be built in higher numbers that in the initial commemorative run.  Because of this, I expect an immediate drop of 10-15% in value of the 2001 Models.  Collectors and drivers take note however, that picking up a very low mileage original (less than 10K miles in the $15-17K range) probably offers more value than a $37,000 2008.5 second edition.  An excellent site to learn more about both Bullitt incarnations is the International Mustang Bullitt Owners Club.

Update:  11/22/07:  A Florida dealer is "pre-selling" a 2008 Bullitt on eBay.  Ford's Website shows the list price of the Bullitt starting at $31,000.  The current bid is $34,000 and the reserve has not been met.  Let the gouging begin!
